Unlike most “normal” radio stations, 91X does not program the same thing over and over and over again 24/7. Much of the time, you’ll hear a cutting edge blend of “alternative rock”. Now, alt-rock has been around for 25+ years, so our playlist includes everything from the early days of “new wave” through the grunge era of the early 90s to today’s new rock. Our focus is on current music, but we do also pay homage to alternative rock’s heritage. Perhaps our slogan says it all: “New Rock and Classic Alternative” Late nights and weekends contain a wealth of diverse programming. Born in Chatham, Ontario and currently residing in the Quinte region, Canadian artist and teacher Laurie Near has held a life-long interest in the visual arts. Since starting to exhibit, Laurie’s painting style has continued to transition from a whimsical, somewhat illustrative approach to one that is increasingly introspective and abstract. Laurie’s formal education includes degrees from the Universities of Guelph and Western Ontario. Paul retired from the executive ranks of the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) as the Assistant Director, Audit, East Central Ontario Tax Services Office, early in 2008. In that position, he was responsible for all audit staff and compliance programs located in Belleville, Kingston and Peterborough CRA office locations. His 34 year career saw Paul in a variety of positions and functions within CRA. He audited small and medium businesses to the largest corporations in his first 17 years with CRA, then moved to various management positions that he held until retirement. Mid-career, Paul also spent some years as a Regional Program Advisor on Native Issues and subsequently on Compliance Programs for the Assistant Commissioner of the CRA Northern Ontario Region. He also worked in CRA offices in Hamilton and Ottawa during his career.

Commodores Orchestra

The Commodores’ Orchestra has provided musical accompaniment to the rhythms of life in east-central Ontario since 1928. That’s 80-plus years of big band swing! The full-sized, 16-piece band plays the classics of the big band era, as performed by the likes of Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw, Harry James, and many more. Vocalist JoAnne Conley revisits the tunes made famous by singers such as Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Helen Forrest, and Helen O’Connell, among others. The band regularly rehearses from a repertoire that also includes music in the Latin, rock, pop, and polka styles. The Commodores’ Orchestra will add a dash of romance and a touch of class to your fundraiser, dance, or concert.
