“Child’s Play”
Coloured Pencils
13″ x 10″
Gee, it seems like forever that I haven’t posted anything on my blog, isn’t it? Since it’s summer I guess I have been busy outside more with the gardening and just everyday life. Kaden (three yrs old) has been keeping me busy these days. We have also been on vacation here and there as well.
So on with my coloured pencil piece here. A few months ago I was taking photos of Kaden in his bedroom on his bed beside his window. The light was really bright and created such a contast between light and dark. I was originally taking the pictures for his grandparents but decided later that I would like to draw it in coloured pencils.
I can’t say it was easy. I would like to still work at layering his left arm and hand to be darker in the shadow. The colours in his pj’s, comfort and curtain really bring everything together I think along with the brightness of his camera. Coincidentally while I was snapping photos of him this was when he picked up his camera and started taking pictures of me.
I have been working on another piece along side this one but I don’t think it will be done for another month with the way my summer is going by. Hope everyone is having a great summer!

With the warmer temperatures I have been hanging around my vegetable garden and spending more time outdoors. If you live anywhere around Ontario, Canada or the north-eastern States you were struck with a long, cold winter so when any sign of warmer temperatures we all came out of our hibernation! We had so much snow this past winter that we have decided that we won’t go through another winter without having a snow blower. Well, enough about cold weather….
So back to art….what have I been doing lately? I have been working on several pieces and will hopefully be posting them soon. There are 2 children pieces I have been working on using Prismacolor pencils that have been taking quite awhile. Of course, with spending more time outdoors these days, it may seem as though I’m spending a lot more time on them when actually it just has been longer intervals in between.
Some great local art shows coming up that I’m hopefully going to be submitting my artwork into them. During the summer months I spend less time on my computer and more time outdoors and working on household projects….and of course, vacation! So stay tuned for more art postings but they may be longer apart.

Ah, to have my artwork displayed in a museum! How wonderful!
Well, I hate to admit it…but it’s not true! This was the compliments of Dumpr website in having giving those who dream about having their artwork showcased at a museum and chance to see what it would look like. These pieces of artwork, of course, are 100 times larger than the original. Can you imagine painting a coloured pencil portrait that huge? I guess I’d better start now so I will be done by the time I’m 90 years old!

So now I am done my parrots painting in coloured pencils. I had taken this photo at the zoo and really loved the vibrant colours so I thought it was a good one to experiment with using Derwent’s Colorsoft Coloured Pencils.
I’m not too crazy about how the bottom of the right parrott came out with the strong black colour. I think I would have added a different colour all together instead of using black. This is how it was in the photograph so I thought I would try and add as much detail as I could from the original. Oh well, maybe I’m the only one who notices.
I had also lightened this up after scanning it because I noticed that the previous scans were coming out too dark unlike the original painting. The colours you see here are more like the original.
Overall, I really do love how it turned out. This was much quicker than having to layer with the Prismacolor pencils for sure.
