Having
always had a lifetime passion for drawing, I started drawing &
sketching portraits at the age of 10. I guess you can say I had the
urge to draw people as I saw them in trying to achieve the highest
detail I could, even at that age. During that time, I also started
drawing animals of all types in both pencil & pen & ink. Drawing
portraits have become one my greatest passions.
I
was born in Toronto, Canada but was raised in Belleville. I have been
self-taught in all the mediums I draw or paint in, discovering and
experimenting along the way. After many years of creating black and
white with pencil or pen & ink, I started a few years ago to draw
and paint in colour. I constantly strive to reach the highest detail
in artistic realism and work many hours to achieve this goal.
Many of my portraits are now displayed throughout homes in North America
and Europe. I have exhibited my work at the Royal York in Toronto,
had a solo exhibit and have participated in art studio tours, juried
shows and art exhibits. A sample of
one of my pointillism portraits was published in a grade 11 Philosophy
Book published by McGraw-Hill Ryerson. I specialize in human &
pet portraiture in pencil, coloured pencil, chalk pastel while experimenting
in other mediums as well.
I have been teaching children and adults for
several years now. I have taught many classes in pencil including
pencil techniques, portraits, still life and landscape as well as
coloured pencil classes. I have also designed Ontario's first online
drawing class offered through the province's many colleges. I have
volunteered in local schools and have also taught after school drawing
classes.
Besides
my love of being a realism artist, I have also taught graphic &
website design at the college level and have operated my own company,
NorthArt of the past 10 years, creating and designing websites and
offering artwork commissions. I graduated from Loyalist
College with a diploma in Advertising in 1987 and have worked as a
graphic designer and website designer ever since.
I am a member of the Belleville Art Association
and Quinte Arts Council. I live with my husband, Greg and son Sheldon
and new baby Kaden!
